Goodwill Honors Graduate & Achiever of the Year

On, May 19, 2009, Goodwill Industries of Mid-Michigan announced their annual awards at the Annual Awards Ceremony held at 11:00 a.m. at the main facility. Along with the Board of Directors, special guests, and counselors, the entire Goodwill staff honored several worthy individuals.

Jesse StaggsJesse Stagg was selected as Graduate of the Year.  Prior to starting his program at Goodwill in October, 2007, Jesse's work history was one of low skill jobs with retention difficulties due to a number of issues.  During his assessment, he displayed initiative, motivation and the desire to succeed and entered Goodwill's Organizational Employment program in the Transportation Department.  After approximately nine months, he was offered an open position on the transportation dock.

Phillip AtkinsonPhillip Atkinson was selected as Achiever of the Year.  Facing multiple employment barriers and an extended period of unemployment, Phillip started a janitorial assessment with Goodwill in March, 2008.  From the start, his desire to work and perform well was evident and his warm personality, positive attitude and sense of humor were contagious.  After two months of Organizational Employment service, Phillip took advantage of an opportunity with our community-based facilities management partner, AYS Management.  He was offered employment at the company in September of 2008.

The Employer of the Year is AYS Facilities Management.  AYS has worked successfully with our Workforce Development Department to place individuals at community sites, with accommodations when necessary, to assure positive outcomes.  Although a successful commercial business, they are always willing to give consumers every opportunity, and often multiple opportunities, to be successful.

Patricia Mack was named the Graduate of the Year Runner-Up, along with Brenda Partridge as the Achiever of the Year Runner-Up.  Congratulations to all of our winners!

Patricia Mack     Brenda Partridge
