City Gets First Goodwill Drop Center


FLUSHING- Now when Flushing residents make a donation to Goodwill Industries, they will receive a personal "thank you" for their kindness.

After having an unmanned drop off bin at the Kroger store on Pierson Road for several years, the non-profit organization opened a donation drop off center operated by an attendant at 775. E. Main St.  Clothing, shoes, toys, household items,....

Goodwill Board Mourns Loss of Thomas G. Landaal

Thomas G. Landaal, Goodwill Board of Directors member and community leader, passed away on December 5, 2007.  Mr. Landaal was elected to the Board of Directors in 1986, and served as Chair from 2005-2007.  He was also a member of the Commercial Services Committee from 1986 until his death.

Tom was President of Landaal Packaging System of Flint and Bay City.  Along with Goodwill, he also served on the boards of numerous local and national charitable organizations including the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, Hurley Regional Medical Center and the United Way.

The board and staff of Goodwill Industries of Mid-Michigan will miss his guidance, "can do" attitude, and commitment to helping people with disabilities and other disadvantaging conditions.

Goodwill Board Loses Long Time Member

Shirley J. PraterShirley J. Prater, Goodwill Board of Directors member, passed away on October 4, 2007 after a long illness.  Ms. Prater was elected to the Board of Directors in 1986, and served as Secretary from 1988 until her death.  She was a member of the Marketing Committee since 1992, and a member of the Commercial Services Committee from 1986 to 1992.

Shirley was employed by UAW Local 599 as Financial Secretary.  She also served on the boards of the United Way, Easter Seals, Old Newsboys, and the Genesee County Parks and Recreation Committee.  Ms. Prater was the coordinator of the Marine Corp Toys-for-Tots program in Genesee County for the past 20 years.

The board and staff of Goodwill Industries of Mid-Michigan will miss her enthusiasm, commitment, and her smile.

Goodwill Industries Announces Goodwill Optical


Goodwill Industries of Mid-Michigan is pleased to announce Goodwill Optical, available only in the Goodwill store at Bristol Rd. and Saginaw St. in the City of Burton.

Goodwill Optical 1 

Goodwill Optical is a new, in-store service for Goodwill customers, offering quality eyeglasses and services at discount prices. Eye tests by a licensed Optician will be $29 and a complete pair of lens and frames will start at just $68.

Goodwill Optical 2

Goodwill Optical is operated under a unique partnership with Redstone Development of Spring Lake, Michigan, with the vision of providing job skills training and job opportunities in the optical career field through the Goodwill network.

Goodwill Industries Achieves ISO 9001:2000 Certification

Goodwill Industries of Mid-Michigan, headquartered in Flint, has been ISO 9001:2000 registered and certified for its conformance to ISO 9001:2000 quality standards and practices.

ISO 9001:2000 certification is awarded to organizations providing quality services and products which demonstrate customer satisfaction and meet customer expectations. Goodwill’s certification was granted for its Quality Management System covering light assembly, computer recycling, automotive battery exchange, dunnage washing, sorting, kitting, packaging and reprocessing services by an independent, third-party auditor, Intertek.

 In pursuing the ISO 9000:2001 registration, Goodwill has also demonstrated that it provides a quality, standard-driven environment for those in its vocational training programs seeking to overcome employment barriers.
